We ordered this guitar new from Taylor in 2011 and truth be told, I can’t remember exactly why or what was custom about it, but I believe it was that by that time Taylor was no longer making a 12-string model with mahogany back and sides and the full 17”-wide body. They had done so many years before, stopped for reasons unknown, and as far as I know make nothing like it today. This particular guitar is one of the most perfect 12-string guitars I’ve ever seen, from anyone. The back and sides are of choice genuine mahogany, as they should be for the crystal-clear sound we all want in a 12-string guitar. A fine Sitka spruce top, fingerboard of prime ebony, and genuine mahogany neck with Taylor’s best-of-anyone’s profile complete the picture for purity of tone and fabulous feel. Its gold tuning machines and heart-of-abalone shell rosette are beautiful touches to complete the picture. We sold this guitar at the time to a local cardiac doctor, who kept it immaculately and finally decided to give it a new home.
