1977 Takamine F-400S 12-String

Takamine has led the way in imported acoustic guitars in America since their introduction here in the 1970s. I was so impressed with their high quality that they became the first imported instruments I ever carried in my store, back in 1972 or so. This particular one, from 1977, is a prime example, a perfectly-made 12-string without the high price of so many others. Made in Japan, it is one of their “F” series instruments, their best stuff at the time, as opposed to the later “G” series guitars that were made in Korea. The “S” in its F-400S model number indicates a solid top, which it surely does have, of beautiful fine-grained Sitka spruce. The back and sides are of layered rosewood, the neck of solid genuine mahogany, not the lesser stuff seen in cheaper models. Fingerboard and bridge are of course rosewood; the tuning machines are gold-plated, something reserved only for their best guitars. Overall condition is near-flawless, a few faint finish blemishes on the lower sides is all. No cracks, no repairs ever needed, no issues whatsoever. The frets show literally no wear; it appears as though this guitar was bought new nearly forty-five years ago and put away until now. Thoroughly gone over and all set up right here in our own shop and and ready to go. The action is delightful and as easy to play as any 12-string you’ve ever held. Comes with hard shell case, handle missing. A fabulous 12 to add to your collection for only $695 w/ohsc
